Xander walked downstairs, ready to head out as soon as Wesley came home. Charles and Wesley had said Xander didn't need to dress up, but Fred had had that look and Xander wanted to do something to make Emily laugh.

And he had to admit the pirate look was good on him.

"Oh, are you heading out?" Rupert was in the living room, on his favourite chair with his briefcase set on the small table next to him and a stack of papers on his knees. They'd known he'd have papers to grade that week, but Xander was sure they hadn't forgotten to tell him they were going trick or treating.

"We're taking Emily out tonight, remember?" he said, sitting on the arm of the chair.

"Isn't Emily a bit young for trick or treating?" Rupert looked up from the paper he was correcting and took off his glasses.

"Never too young for a good candy haul is what I say," Xander replied, putting an arm around Rupert's shoulder. He pulled up his eyepatch and winked, before letting it snap back. "Ow," he muttered. "Wanna come with us?" he asked, scrunching up his nose.

Rupert smiled, but shook his head. "I have to get these done for next class," he replied softly. "Don't you eat all the baby's candy, now."

"Aww." Xander nuzzled Rupert's cheek. "Way to suck the fun out of it."

Rupert caught Xander's hand and kissed it. "I must admit that our boy on a sugar high can be a fun thing for us. I'm sure Wesley would agree."

"Yeah, yeah it can, and he would." In fact, Wesley had said something about that too when he'd told Xander about Charles and Fred's invitation. He kissed Rupert, tongue sweeping out to tease waiting lips open.

Rupert broke the kiss a few seconds later and murmured, "I think I hear Wesley."

Just as he said that, the door opened. "Well," Wesley said, walking in and putting his briefcase next to the door, "it seems I'll be going out with a pirate tonight, and if Fred is to be believed, a small monkey as well."

Xander kissed Rupert one last time and stood up. "Like my costume?"

Wesley's eyes raked over him and he nodded appreciatively. "Yes, yes, quite. It might even have, shall I say, reusable values."

"Does it?"

"Oh yes, wouldn't you agree, Rupert?"

"Absolutely," Rupert said, his nose already back into his papers, glasses askew. "Now, would you two please go so I can work in peace?"

The glare he gave them just made Xander laugh. "Yes, boss!" He put on his shoes and followed Wesley out the door.

Charles insisted on taking pictures, a lot of them. A week later, one was already adorning the living room shelves: Xander grinning with an armful of giggling monkey-baby, and Wesley just off to the side, the smile on his face bright and happy.

It was Rupert's favourite since the moment he saw it.

Xander's pirate costume had been cleaned and stowed away for future, much more raunchy, endeavours. Every time he set eyes on it, Rupert imagined he could still taste sugary candy mixed with the taste of Wesley on Xander's lips.
